Walking into a church for the first time takes nerve

So here is everything you might want to ask and would rather not have to.

What that morning looks like

  1. Arrive around 9:50

    Park in the lot beside the church and walk in. Tell whoever greets you that it is your first time.

  2. 10:00, worship begins

    A few songs, with the words on screen in Chinese. You are welcome to just stand and listen.

  3. 10:30, kids head to Sunday school

    Children and youth each have their own room and teachers. You can walk your child over and come back.

  4. The sermon

    About forty minutes in Mandarin, working through a passage of the Bible. Done before 11:30.

  5. Near the end, visitors are welcomed

    We gently invite anyone new to stand and say their name. It is one sentence, and nothing to prepare. It is how people know to come and talk to you afterwards.

  6. Stay for lunch

    Many families eat together afterwards. Stay as long or as little as you like.

Do I need to sign up before visiting?
No. Just come. Sunday worship starts at 10:00 AM at 133 E Graves Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755. Someone will greet you at the door and help you find a seat.
What language is the service in?
Sunday worship is in Mandarin Chinese. Youth Sunday school is mostly in English, and children's Sunday school teachers speak both. Many families here are bilingual, so you will not be stuck.
What should I wear?
Whatever you are comfortable in. Some people wear a jacket, others wear jeans. There is no dress code.
Can I bring my kids?
Please do. Children's Sunday school runs at 10:30 AM for ages 4 through 5th grade. Youth Sunday school also starts at 10:30 and moves to the youth room at 10:50.
Is there parking?
Yes. There is a free lot next to the church building, and it is usually enough on a Sunday morning.
How long is the service, and will I have to introduce myself?
About ninety minutes, from 10:00 to 11:30. Near the end the pastor gently invites anyone visiting for the first time to stand and say their name, so the church knows who to come and talk to afterwards. It is one sentence, nothing to prepare. The rest of the service you can simply sit at the back.
Do I have to give money?
No. The offering is a voluntary response from members. Visitors are not expected to give anything.
Can I watch online instead?
Yes. The service is streamed live at 10:00 AM on our YouTube channel @abmcla, and full sermon and worship videos stay up afterwards.
